It’s hard to feel human when you have little humans. You’re busy, they’re busy. Humanette is a place to get back to what makes you… you, while the littles are enjoying themselves. What better place to let them play hard while you work hard. Stay awhile, enjoy meeting new friends. Find space to just be human beings...
I embarked on the idea behind Humanette in late 2019. I was full of creativity and hope and inspiration. A café where kids can be free to play but where parents also want to spend time. Parent-forward. Child-friendly. Open to all. And with really good drinks.
Then 2020 hit us like a ton of bricks. It hit all of us in ways we didn't even know were possible.
In the last 12 months, there has been a baby born, a move, a career sidelined, and countless other changes to our family's daily life. Pandemic life is tough. But I'm still here. I'm still mom. I'm still human. And we all still need a space to connect, to be productive, and to celebrate. Those things are so much harder than they used to be. It's not as simple as a play date and a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) -- filling our proverbial cups takes more effort, more creativity, more support from others.
I hope to one day soon have a space where we can open our doors and allow the little humans to run and play and create while we larger humans can connect--or disconnect, gather, and celebrate. Until then, I hope to be able to share stories and experiences about parenthood, mine and yours. To share in the milestones, the wins, the losses. To celebrate the little things, the normal things. To encourage each other, lift one another up, and commiserate as we navigate this "new normal" (anyone else never want to hear that phrase again?).
It looks a little less than what I wanted it to right now, but maybe it can be a little more of what we need, as humans. In this together.
