Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a "kinder cafe"?
Kinder (pronounced kĭndʹər) is a German and Yiddish word for children; so, we're quite literally a children's cafe. But we're so much more than that. Humanette is a child-friendly, parent-forward cafe, play space, and community space. At Hümanette, you will find a full-service cafe with healthy and delicious breakfast, lunch, & snack options as well as a selection of beer and wine. Babies and young toddlers - and their caregivers - can enjoy our infant space with developmentally appropriate toys and comfortable seating for the adults. The kiddos from 2 - 7 (or so) can enjoy our imagnatitive and gross motor play space. Kids 7+ can hang out in the lounge, stocked with games, art supplies, and comfy seating for playing games on those Nintendo Switches.
  • Can I drop my kids off?
We are not licensed for drop-off care so parents or caretakers must stay on-site while their children play at Hümanette. We do offer supervised play sessions so you can focus more intently on your own to-dos. You can also reserve a private chat booth or a co-working space to keep your time productive. Please note: caretaker must remain on-site during supervised play; play supervisors do not change diapers or assist kids in the restroom.
  • How much does it cost?
Infants under 6 months are always free! Day passes are $15 for children over 18 months - 8 years $10 for babies 6- 18 months $10 for children 8+ who want to use the lounge. Day passes are good all day so you can always leave for nap time and come back! You can become a member, offering additional benefits, starting at $70/month.
  • Do I have to be a member?
Membership has its perks, but no, you are welcome to come just for the day.
  • I have a kid older than 6, can they come too? Will they be bored?
While our play area and activities are designed to appeal most to children 6 and under, older siblings who are able to play considerately and gently with younger children are always welcome in the play area. We also have a "big kid" sibling lounge, intended for kids 7-12, where they'll find games, legos, art supplies, books, and other things for them to enjoy.
  • Do I have to make a reservation?
We recommend it. Sometimes there might be space available for drop-in play, but you can guarantee yourself a spot by booking ahead of time. We book in 2-hour play sessions, however your entrance is good all day, so if you have to go home for a nap break and come back, we can do that!
  • How long can we stay?
Our play sessions are 2.5 hours. We clear the play area between each session so that we can restore the toys and materials and give the space a cleaning. Your day pass is good all day, so if you would like to leave and come back, you are welcome to do so, subject to availability. Just let us know, and we'll give you a wristband.
  • Do I get a discount for bringing more than one kid?
Daily drop-in play passes cost the same regardless of how many children you bring, however memberships are discounted for multiple children: $70/month for one child, $120/month for two, and $190/month for three. If you think your kiddo will want to come play more than once a week, membership really is the way to go!
  • Do I have to pay for my infant?
Infants under 6 months are always free. Kiddos 6-18 months are $10.
  • Can I bring in my own food and drinks?
We are a full-service cafe so we do not allow outside food or drink. Take a look at our menu to find something for even the pickiest eaters. We do always allow infants' bottles and starter foods in the cafe. We try to maintain an allergen conscious environment, however, if you or your child needs special accommodations, please talk to a Hümanette staff member; we'll be happy to help.
  • Can I have a birthday celebration in the cafe during open play?
We do not permit birthday or other celebrations during open play hours. We will ask you to remove any outside balloons, cake, or other decorations. We have many event packages to choose from and would love to help you plan your next celebration!
  • Can I keep my shoes on?
In order to maintain the health of our young guests and insure the cleanliness you expect from us, the play spaces are a socks-only environment for all guests, big and small. If you happen to forget your socks, we have some available for purchase.
  • Is there a private place to feed my baby?
Yes! We have a Mother's Room, located right off our infant play area. It is available on a first come, first served basis and inside you'll find a comfortable chair, phone charger, mini-fridge (in case you need a place to stash your liquid gold), and a changing area for baby. Mothers are also always permitted and supported in breastfeeding anywhere in our space.
  • Can we bring our homeschool (or other private) group?
We are currently determining how to best serve our homeschool families and other small groups. If you have thoughts on how to accommodate these groups, please send your thoughts and ideas.
  • Can I invest in Hümanette?
We are absolutely open to discussing investment opportunities! Please reach out to set up a time to chat.
